I believe that there is a moral duty to speak out against oppression that results in harm to others.
I understand that my family and I are extremely fortunate to live where, when and how we do. It’s rare. Only a tiny decimal fraction of these human beings in history have had anything near the food, clothing, shelter, entertainment, education and longevity that we do.
But right now in both Africa and the U.S., selfish and discriminatory policies by the current U.S. administration are the direct cause of avoidable death, disability, disease and suffering. A dear friend, who is a fount of charity and wisdom, jokingly says to me, when I get wrapped up in diatribe, “Shut up and putt!”
But right now, we can’t shut up, and I really don’t putt very well anyway. We shall overcome.
