Over two months ago, during the last congressional recess, Indivisible Cumberland County invited Sen. Susan Collins to a town hall meeting, held March 19.
Despite the senator’s silence (neither did she respond to the invitation nor attend the event), 900 Mainers participated in the town hall meeting: 500 in person and 400 virtually. For over two hours, constituents shared their stories, concerns and questions for Sen. Collins. Indivisible Cumberland County transcribed the 120 minutes of testimony, in addition to questions posed by online participants, and delivered it to Sen. Collins’ office in Portland.
We requested that Sen. Collins meet with constituents to hear their concerns directly, either in person or virtually, and repeatedly called her offices requesting that Sen. Collins hold some kind of constituent meeting. Each request has been dismissed.
Meanwhile, we’re seeing draconian budget bills passed, innocent people imprisoned, corruption at the executive level never seen before and appropriated funds impounded. Mainers want, and deserve, a meeting with Sen. Collins to ask questions and share concerns and fears.
