Sam Laverdiere of Lake Region, Ryker Paradis of Lewiston, Carter Engelman of Windham and Sophia Chase of Bangor captured New England track and field titles Saturday in New Britain, Connecticut.

Laverdiere, coming off a sweep of the three distance events at the Class B state meet, set a personal best of 4 minutes, 13.64 seconds while winning the boys 1,600 meters.

Paradis placed first in the shot put at 63 feet, 2 inches. He also was third in the discus at 181-1.

Windham’s Carter Engelman competes in the pole vault at the Class A championships Tuesday in Lewiston. He tied with Scarborough’s Wyatt Martin for first with a vault of 15-0 at the state meet, but on Saturday in Connecticut won the New England title with a 15-3. After sharing the Class A pole vault title with Scarborough’s Wyatt Martin, Engelman earned the New England championship by clearing 15-3 — a personal best.

Chase won a tight competition in the girls long jump with a leap of 18-1 3/4.

Several other Maine athletes posted top-three finishes: Zoe Hutchins of Lawrence in the girls discus (second, 135-0), Teanne Ewings of Greater Houlton Christian in the girls 3,200 (second, 10:32.89), Laurel Driscoll of Scarborough in the girls 1,600 (third, 4:56.77), Tayla Pelletier of Windham in the girls triple jump (third, 37-7), and Sloan Gardner of Cape Elizabeth in the girls shot put (third, 38-5 1/2).
