Newport native Cooper Flagg said in an interview with ‘Today’s’ Craig Melvin that he will likely get emotional when his name is called at the NBA draft on Wednesday night.
Flagg, the presumptive No. 1 pick, also told Melvin that hearing NBA Commissioner Adam Silver call his name will be surreal.
“I think just sharing this moment with my family,” Flagg said in the interview. “I think it’s a dream come true for all of them and me as well, and then my friends, as well.”
The NBA draft is Wednesday night at 8 (ESPN, ABC) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Dallas Mavericks hold the No. 1 pick and are expected to select Flagg.
“I know my mom’s (Kelly Flagg) going to be bawling her eyes out whenever my name gets called. I think my oldest brother (Hunter) will probably cry, too,” Flagg said.
As for himself?
“I thought about it a little bit. I probably will end up crying. But, I mean, we’ll see,” Flagg said.
