Does Susan Collins love President Trump or does she love Maine? She must choose because they are mutually exclusive.
As for a “Declaration of Conscience,” Collins is no Liz Cheney (and neither is anyone else, after what happened to her). And, a Margaret Case Smith-style “Declaration” would have no effect, other than to incur Trump’s and MAGA’s wrath. The most responsible action Collins could take right now would be to resign as senator and allow Gov. Mills to appoint a Democrat to replace her.
Collins’ colleague Olympia Snowe left the Senate because of the nasty polarity. Why doesn’t Collins leave too? Or, does she love Trump that much more than she (would ever) love Maine?
