Michael Layman
SOLON – Michael Layman, 66, passed away on July 4, 2025. He was born in Meriden, Conn., on May 30, 1959, son of John Joseph and Annette Marilyn (Bergeron) Layman. From the moment he entered this world he fought for his life against all odds, enduring years of surgery and physical therapy. Finally able to walk with crutches at the age of 5 years old.
Michael’s winning smile and personality is the reason he was selected Easter Seal Ambassador for the state of Connecticut. In that capacity he met the Governor, Bishop, and quarterbacks Otto Graham and Bart Starr. He struggled in school though ultimately persevered despite his disabilities. Graduating with his Carrabec High School classmates in 1977.
Utilizing his spunky can-do attitude, he showed off his independence. He skied, ice skated, hunted, and fished … skiing and skating were not his forte though rabbits and fish feared him. He lived a full life despite painful obstacles in his path. His infectious smile and laugh always prevailed. He was an avid music lover and sports fan.
He was predeceased by his father, John; and brother, Christopher. There is a welcoming party waiting for him with family and friends. Rest easy, no more pain or falls.
Michael leaves behind his beloved mother, Annette Layman; sister, Charlene Myers (Jack Parkhurst); brother, Eric Layman – his biggest fan with his wife Laura and their two children, John and Rachel with whom he had an especially meaningful relationship; along with many other relatives and close friends.
Michael’s memorial service is on Aug. 22, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Church in Bingham with a reception to follow.
