I noticed that the July 28 paper published an article about the 90th anniversary of Casco Days. I am a resident of Casco, with two small children. This year I had to skip Casco Days with my kids and I am very upset about what happened.
The Casco Days parade included a pickup truck flying a Confederate flag and a MAGA flag. Political statements have no place in a parade celebrating Casco, and the MAGA sign was certainly inappropriate. On the other hand, Confederate flags are racist symbols and have no place in polite society.
I will not be attending the fair again until the town of Casco issues a public apology, and several other parents in the town of Casco feel the same way. I don’t feel comfortable living and sending my kids to school in a town where symbols of racism are tolerated.
This poor decision, in my opinion, turned the 90th anniversary celebration into a black mark on the town of Casco.
