I loved Victoria Hugo-Vidal’s latest column, “Sister Edward Mary was a true blessing in my life.” Like the author, I am one of thousands who had the privilege of a McAuley education under Sister Edward Mary’s (SEM’s) leadership. Victoria and I graduated one year apart. Her piece served as a time machine transportation to where I fell in love with learning and transformed into the best version of myself. Throughout her essay, I could hear Victoria’s glorious high school orations and hilarious observations on our surroundings — an uplifting and laugh-out-loud reading experience.
May the McAuley Lions continue to reflect on the green and golden impact SEM had on us, individually and as a pack. May we remain connected, and — together — keep alive the enchanting, irreplaceable culture she created.
I also want to thank Victoria for transporting me back to Stevens Avenue — and for being as “bad in plaid” today as she was 15 years ago.
