Maryanne (Johnson) Hanks
AUGUSTA – Maryanne (Johnson) Hanks died Aug. 15, 2025, after a gallant struggle with esophageal cancer. She was born in Augusta Nov. 29, 1963, to Frank W. and Louise Johnson.
The youngest of six children, Maryanne, known affectionately to family and friends as Frisbee, graduated from Cony High School in 1982. She enjoyed a very diverse working career as a dance instructor, day care provider, substitute teacher, and accomplished seamstress. To each of these roles she brought energy, enthusiasm and a vibrant personality. She saved her greatest enthusiasm for precious time spent with her family, especially her three grandchildren who she adored and her nieces and nephews. The time she devoted to them was a true treasure in her life. Her infectious passion for music and dance was contagious and inspired her family during the holidays and beyond. Through her spirit and joy she created lasting memories for the many who loved her.
Maryanne was predeceased by her parents Frank W. and Louise Johnson of Augusta, and her brother Peter Johnson of Augusta. Maryanne is survived by her husband Dana Hanks of Augusta; her daughter Samantha and her husband Brian Emmons and grandchildren Brylee, Avery, and Brayden of Turner; her daughter Haley of Portland, her son Corey and his wife Abbie of Keene New Hampshire; her brothers Frank A. Johnson and his wife Jeannie of Augusta; Steve Johnson and his wife Pam of Augusta; her sisters Suzanne and her husband Steve Levesque of Hallowell, and Deborah and her husband Tim Skehan of Augusta, and her sister-in-law Sue and her husband Steve Gayne of Augusta. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews; and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Frisbee will be remembered as a small but spirited woman (some might say a feisty spitfire) who approached life and its challenges with vigor, passion and love.
The family would like to thank the very thoughtful and caring nursing staff of the Malone Family Tower at Maine Medical Center for the excellent care they provided Maryanne during her lengthy stay.
There will be no public viewing. A celebration of Maryanne’s life will be announced soon.
