Robert Franklin Shorey Jr.

RICHMOND – Robert Franklin Shorey, Jr., 75, born on Dec. 18, 1949, in Waterville, and a longtime resident of Richmond, passed away on Sept. 17, 2025. Known affectionately as Robert, he was a man with a heart as broad as his love for the simple joys of life.

Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Private First Class. Following his military service, he worked as a picker in the poultry industry until his retirement. But his true passion lies outside of work. An outdoorsman at heart, Robert loved fishing and hunting. His love for nature was only paralleled by his love for cooking, especially a good hamburger. He was a frequent attendee at local fairs, thoroughly enjoying the sights, sounds, and camaraderie. When not indulging in these hobbies, Robert could be found going for leisurely rides and having coffee, or at home, lost in the tunes of Elvis, with “Love Me Tender” being his favorite song.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Shorey Sr., and his mother, Rita Ross; and a brother, Ronald Shorey.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Priscilla Shorey; and son, Jimmy Shorey; sister, Ruth McPhail, brother, Mark Shorey; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Though he will be missed by all who knew him, his spirit lives on in the memories he left behind.

Visiting hours for Robert will be held on Monday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Staples Funeral Home, located at 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A military committal service will be held the following day, Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery – Committal Shelter, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta.
