Like many Mainers, I have dreaded the occasional trips to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, where the wait has been long, crowded and uncomfortable. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the appointment system is working extremely well.
I made an appointment only yesterday, and I had an 8:45 a.m. appointment today for a license renewal and change over to the Real ID. I arrived at 8:40 a.m. and checked in at the lobby kiosk. I was greeted by a BMV employee who checked to see if my documentation was in order. I waited a few minutes before my number was called. Again, a clerk checked my proof of residency, administered an eye exam, took my photo and check and I was out the door by 9 a.m., 20 minutes in total.
So kudos to Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and her BMV team for greatly improving the BMV services for the benefit of Maine people.
