I urge my fellow Mainers to please join me in voting “yes” on Question 2 this November.
To a long-term gun owner and hunter, this “red flag” law makes common sense. The proposed law provides a vital tool for those closest to the problem: the people who witness warning signs firsthand. It includes due process protections while creating a pathway for intervention before tragedy strikes. It would allow courts to temporarily remove dangerous weapons when law enforcement, family, or household members demonstrate someone poses significant danger to themselves or others.
Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens, and the leading cause of suicide death in Maine. Let’s get with the other 21 states that have red flag laws. Please join me in supporting this common-sense safety measure.
