Ballot Question 1 on voting infuriates me. The one time, in the last 40 years, that I didn’t vote was when the three days before the election limit was enacted. My work made it impossible to be home to vote on Election Day, and its demands kept me from going to get a ballot until that Friday — and I was denied.
Only one sentence in the whole ballot measure is about needing identification at the polls. All the rest of the measure makes it harder to vote absentee or even ahead of time at the town office.
That appears to be the real focus of this ballot measure — to make it harder to vote.
We must not allow ourselves to be tricked into thinking this will make our votes safe. Defend voter rights. Vote “No” on ballot Question 1.
