The people who support Question 1 focus on the requirement to prove one’s identity at the polls. That is misleading. If people actually read the ballot, they will discover the proposition includes at least six different measures: one of them requires proof at identity at the polls; the others are designed to make it more difficult for people to use an absentee ballot, particularly the elderly and the disabled.
It will “prohibit requests for absentee ballots by phone or by family members, end ongoing absentee voter status for the seniors and people with disabilities, ban prepaid postage on absentee ballot return envelopes … and make other changes.”
Why do the people behind Question 1 want to make it harder to vote? Is that democracy?
