William Morris of Dirigo and Bryanna Hagopian of Madison were the individual champions, and the Winthrop boys and Boothbay/Wiscasset girls captured team titles at the Mountain Valley Conference cross country championships Saturday in Augusta.
Morris, a junior, completed the 5-kilometer UMaine-Augusta course in 16 minutes, 39.6 seconds. Runner-up Alfie Cognata of Winthrop was more than a minute behind (17:49.3), followed closely by Madison’s Craig Paine (17:50.8), Boothbay/Wiscasset’s AJ Crocker (17:55.8) and Winthrop’s Keenan Libby (18:07.3).
Winthrop placed five runners in the top 14 to score 36 points, for a decisive victory over Lisbon (65).
Hagopian, a senior, also won by more than a minute. Her time of 20:09.6 was well ahead of teammate Leah Harper (21:32.6). Dirigo’s McKenzie Boyle (22:06.2), Oak Hill’s Abigail Gervais (22:52.1) and Mt. Abram’s Addie Paul (22:57.9) rounded out the top five.
Boothbay/Wiscasset, led by Maddie Andreasen in seventh place (24:02.7), edged Maranacook for the team title, 61-64. Madison was a close third with 72 points.
BOYS SOCCER
WINTHROP 6, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 2: Evan Bilodeau scored three times and Travis Donovan scored twice as the Ramblers (6-5-3) beat the Falcons (1-10-1) in Rumford.
Keenan Libby, Graham Hurt and Travis Donovan each had an assist for Winthrop, which benefitted from two own goals. Giannia Haefele had four saves.
Jack Glover and Ryder Merrill scored for Mountain Valley. Walker Flagg and Dexter Rice both had an assist, and Gabe Hall had nine saves.
