Most of the state’s high school football classifications are finalizing their postseason standings with this week’s regular-season finales. But not Class A, which still has one week after this. Class A does feature one of the biggest matchups of the 2025 season when the No. 1 team in the Varsity Maine football poll, Thornton, travels to face No. 2 Bonny Eagle.

The poll’s top five is the same as last week, while Westbrook, one of the state’s best stories this season, jumped from eighth to sixth.

This week’s poll did feature a rare form of craziness. Although there wasn’t much consensus beyond Thornton and Bonny Eagle being Nos. 1 and 2, the top eight teams in the poll appeared on all nine voters’ ballots. Ninth-place Hermon appeared on all but one. There was little agreement for No. 10, but Gardiner received a ninth-place and a 10th-place vote to snag the No. 10 ranking with three points, while six squads received a vote and had one or two points.

The Varsity Maine football poll is based on games played before Oct. 21, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
