Roger Eastman Condit
FARMINGTON – Roger Eastman Condit, 88, died on Oct. 15, 2025, at home in Farmington, Maine. He was at peace and surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born July 4, 1937, in Hanover, NH, to Elaine French Eastman and Rev. Edward Morrow Condit. Roger graduated from Dartmouth College in 1959 and from Tufts Medical School in 1963.
Roger and Karyl Allyn married in 1963 and moved to Portland for Roger’s residency at Maine Medical Center. After a two-year stint in the Navy in California and Guam as a physician, he and Karyl moved to Farmington in 1968.
Roger joined Rural Health Associates, a group of physicians who implemented a federally-funded public health initiative to increase primary care access. Roger practiced family medicine in Farmington and RHA’s Rangeley clinic, delivered babies, and made house calls. When RHA dissolved in the 1980s, Roger transitioned to Healthreach Community Health Center. He retired in 2003.
Roger loved his community and supported causes that promoted justice, human rights, and strong families. Roger served on the boards of the Franklin County Children’s Task Force, 82 High Street Housing Development, LEAP and the diaconate of Old South Church. Roger served as a hospice volunteer at Togus VA Medical Center. He gave driving lessons not only to his children and an exchange student but also to several young mothers living at the Kerr House (Positive Turning Points for Youth). Roger volunteered as a camp counselor at Pilgrim Lodge (Maine Conference UCC) and accompanied three UCC mission trips to Honduras. He and Karyl sang in UMF Community Chorus and Old South Church choir. Roger also enjoyed acting with Sandy River Players.
Roger’s children and grandchildren brought out his playful side. He loved hiking, eating ice cream, giving shoulder rides, doing puzzles, playing chess, or completing projects together. Regardless of his busy professional life, he made sure to attend their concerts, games, and races.
Roger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Karyl; his children Sara (and Thomas) Dean, Bruce (and Whitney) Condit, Andrea Condit (and Paul Dobler); grandchildren Joseph Dean (and Ida-Marie Palm), Cecilia Dean (and Claire Michelsen), Ben Condit, Nora Condit, and Jayveon Bazley-Watkins; great-grandson, Aksel Palm; and his older brother, Edward Morrow Condit, Jr.
Roger’s family is grateful for support received from the community, especially Old South Church, throughout his long illness with dementia. The family also sends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of Andwell Health Partners and Wiles Remembrance Center. A full obituary can be found at wilesrc.com.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Old South Church, 235 Main St, Farmington, ME.
In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to one of Roger’s favorite organizations:
Old South Church, Pilgrim Lodge, Children’s Task Force, Western Maine Community Chorus, Meharry Medical College, or Andwell Hospice, who provided excellent care for Roger and his family in his final days
