Oakland residents elected Alicia Barnes to serve on the Oakland-area school board.
Barnes earned 1,009 votes, besting Charles Stubbert who earned 797 votes, to take the open seat representing Oakland vacated by Michael Tracy.
Barnes has previous political experience. She served as a state representative in House District 66, which encompasses Oakland, Sidney, Mercer, Smithfield and Starks. She has two sons and served in the U.S. Navy.
Stubbert is the Oakland police chief and previously served on the school board.
Oakland has two seats on the Regional School Unit 18 board, which encompasses the towns of China, Oakland, Belgrade, Rome and Sidney.
