Matt Dunlap learned long ago, as a varsity athlete and a captain at Mount Desert Island High School, to be a team player. Years later, Matt remains a team player. Whether it’s defending fellow Democrats who come under attack or voting against Republican spending bills and tax breaks for millionaires, he can be relied upon to support members of his own party and to vote against legislation opposed by the vast majority of Democrats.
Having served eight years in the Maine Legislature, including as a committee chair, Matt observed that political parties are vital for passing legislation. He understands the Democratic Party is a central organizing force within Congress, influencing the agenda, controlling the flow of bills and enforcing party discipline.
Matt Dunlap can be counted on to vote for legislation supported by Democrats and to oppose bills that harm middle- and low-income Mainers. He has demonstrated as our secretary of state and as the state auditor that he will be an effective congressman who will be responsive to the economic concerns of his constituents.
