David J. Sibley

AUGUSTA – David James “Dave” Sibley, 54, of Melrose, Mass. and formerly of Augusta, Maine, died on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, following a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was the devoted husband of Cecelia (Keller) Sibley with whom he shared over 16 years of marriage. Born in Augusta, Maine, in 1971, he was the son of Cecile (Laliberte) Sibley and the late James Sibley. He was raised and educated in Augusta and began his love for golf at age 14 at the Natanis Golf course in Vassalboro, Maine. He attended the University of Maine before transferring to Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Golf Management. He worked his way through the Carolina’s before returning to New England. Dave was the PGA Head Golf Professional at Gannon Municipal Golf Course in Lynn for the past 12 years. Dave was recently named the 2025 Massachusetts Chapter Golf Professional of the Year. He dedicated his career to growing the game of golf and mentoring young players, sharing his passion with everyone he met. For the past 6 years, he has served on the PGA of America, New England, Massachusetts Chapter Board and was currently serving as the Honorary President, where he has been instrumental in the success of the newly founded Massachusetts Chapter Scholarship.

Dave found immense joy spending time at the family camp on Cobbosseecontee Lake in Manchester, Maine, where he loved fishing and relaxing by the fire pit. He appreciated a good bourbon and had an uncanny ability to name nearly any ’80s song within just a few notes. His love of travel and golf took him to courses around the world, with a recent highlight being the opportunity to play at St. Andrews in Scotland.

In his nearly four-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Dave exemplified courage, grace, and an incredible strength of spirit. He never walked alone; he was surrounded by a village of family and friends who supported him and encouraged him.

In addition to his wife Cecelia and his mother Cecile, Dave is survived by his sister Lynn Daley; his aunts Pat Laliberte and her partner Candy Fallon; his uncle Gerry Laliberte and his wife Deborah and his aunt Deborah Mason; his nieces Courtney Moore and her husband Zachary and their son James and Casey

and Teagan Daley. He is also remembered with love by his extended family including many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout Maine, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. His loyal companion and Gannon mascot, Webster, will miss him greatly.
