Voters in the Varsity Maine football poll have varying views of how to rank teams eliminated from the postseason. Just look at Bonny Eagle.

It’s no surprise that Thornton Academy is the unanimous No. 1 in the Varsity Maine football poll for the fourth week in a row. The Golden Trojans won their third No. 1-versus-No. 2 showdown of season when they defeated Bonny Eagle in the Class A South title game.

Cony and Bonny Eagle each received four second-place votes, but the Rams jumped up a spot to second, probably because they won their regional final. The Scots were No. 2 last week but dropped to No. 3.

Four voters saw Bonny Eagle’s hard-fought 40-28 loss to the No. 1 team in the state as what they’d expect from the second-best team. Other voters ranked the Scots as low as seventh or eighth, behind mostly teams playing for state championships on Saturday.

For what it’s worth, Cony’s foe in the Class B state final, Westbrook, received the other second-place vote. The Blue Blazes are still ranked fifth, but this week are only one point behind No. 4 Portland. Class C finalists Greely and Leavitt moved up one and two spots, respectively.

The Varsity Maine football poll is based on games played through Nov. 15, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
