Thelma Lois (Wood) Bulger

VASSALBORO – Thelma Lois (Wood) Bulger, 103, born in Oakland, Maine, April 24, 1922, the daughter of Norman L & Eva L Wood (Bubier). Always known as Lois, she passed away peacefully on Nov. 13, 2025, with her youngest daughter by her side at Maine General Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Glenridge in Augusta.

Lois was educated in Oakland schools. She graduated from Milton LaForest High school in 1939 and Thomas Business College in Waterville in 1940. Lois retired from VA TOGUS after 34 years, where she had been an Adjudicator in the Claims division.

Lois married the late Harold R. Bulger Jr. on Dec. 24, 1940. The Bulger’s later moved to Vassalboro and raised four children, Maryella, Gregory, Linda and Elizabeth, lovingly known as Archie.

Lois taught Sunday School at Adam’s Memorial Church at Getchells Corner until its closing. She was also a member and past president of the Woman’s Fellowship. She loved reading mysteries, quilting and gardening, as well as going to “Yard Sales” with her daughters. Going out to breakfast with family was always a pleasure to Lois. She loved Christmas and family get togethers. Lois loved her children, grandchildren, great grands and great great grandchildren.

Over the years the Bulger’s owned and operated Pine Tree Stables , where they raised horses and ponies. In 1982 after retiring from Togus they opened Pine Tree Stables Antiques and Collectibles.

Lois continued running the business and selling on eBay until August of 2023 when she had a stroke and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Lois was predeceased by her husband Harold; her parents; and all six of her siblings; also her oldest daughter Maryella and her husband Bernard Carter and son-in-law Arthur Buttrick.

Survivors include her son Harold Gregory Bulger and wife Diana, daughter Linda L Buttrick, daughter Elizabeth A. Bourgoin and her husband Paul Bourgoin who she thought of as a second son; along with 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren .

The family would like to thank the staff at Glenridge Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care especially those on the Gardens Wing and Maine General Hospice for their KIND and Compassionate care.

Per Lois’ wishes there will be no services.
