Thomas Cunningham

WATERVILLE – Thomas Cunningham went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Thomas Lee Cunningham was born on July 11, 1944, to Kenneth and Rachel (Small) Cunningham in Waterville. He was the 4th of seven siblings.

Tom was a teacher and principal in many school districts for many years and later on he worked and retired from Capital Computers in Augusta.

He married the love of his life, of 60 years, Roberta Higgins. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July of 2025. Together they had two children and four grandchildren.

Tom was a member of Blessed Hope Church since he was an infant and in his later years was an elder. He was the president, for many years, at Lakeside Advent Christian Campground and a board member for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing especially with his son and grandson.

Tom was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He put the Lord first in all that he did and lived every day for him. He was the calm in the storm. He loved helping others when he could. He was well known and highly respected in his Church and the town of Oakland. He adored his wife and family, and they were always his priority.

He was predeceased by both his parents Kenneth and Rachel Cunningham; a sister Patty Glidden and his only brother Kenneth Cunningham II, and brother-in-law George Higgins.

He is survived by his wife Roberta Cunningham of Oakland; son Randy Cunningham and wife Angella of Winslow, daughter Rebecca Pare and her husband Darren of Orono; grandchildren Dakota Thomas, Nicholas, Marissa and Brooke; sisters Kay Wrigley, Linda Estes, Dot Shuman and Ruth Cunningham, sisters-in-law, Elene Higgins, Earlene Gibbs and Kathy Cray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday Nov. 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church on Pleasant Street in Waterville. A gathering will follow.
