Reina Mae Michaud
RYE, NH – Reina Mae Michaud, 96, passed away in Rye, NH on Nov. 18, 2025, with her family by her side.
Reina was born on Oct. 11, 1929, at home in New Canada Plantation, Maine, the daughter of Pauline and Leo Pelletier. She grew up with her five siblings on her family’s potato farm. Reina graduated from Fort Kent High School and then from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Lewiston, Maine.
She loved her role as a registered nurse and worked in many positions over the years including hospitals, doctors’ offices, corrective facilities, and maternal and child public health clinics and home visiting. She passed her love of nursing on to her children and was very proud that all three of her daughters, three of her granddaughters, one nephew, and one niece also chose nursing for their careers. Two of her grandchildren also married nurses.
Reina cherished spending time with her large extended family for any occasion and visiting with family and friends who stopped by her and Merle’s home on Winthrop Street in Hallowell, Maine, where they lived for 66 years. She was especially excited about the time she spent with her grand and great-grand children.
She loved to knit, sew, crochet, play the piano, sing, and garden. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the many years she lived in Hallowell. She and Merle enjoyed traveling across the country and to Alaska, as well as to Europe several times. The place that she loved the most and will always be ‘home’ to her was Fort Kent/Daigle, Maine. Reina had a wonderful sense of humor, and her witty comments, generous heart, and love will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Merle Michaud; her daughter Paula Michaud, her daughter Donna Maynard; her brother Leo Pelletier, her brother Renaud Pelletier; her nephew Paul Robertson and her nephew Robert (Butch) Platt.
She is survived by her brother James Pelletier, sister Joan Ramo, sister Louise Platt; sons-in-law Derrill Maynard and Hank Simms, daughter Janice Michaud and husband Charles Hughes, son Edmund Michaud and wife Joyce, son James Michaud and wife Ann, daughter-in-law Tammy Michaud, son Stephen Michaud and wife Kara; 12 grandchildren, Katë Schimmel (Ehren), Kevin Maynard (Kate Sikorski-Maynard), Christopher Bouley (Jillian), Anne Peeke (Coleman), Emma Hughes (Nicholas Rogers), Elizabeth Simms, Nathan Michaud (Siobhan), Benjamin Simms, Nicholas Michaud, Abigail Hughes, Renée Simms (Kevin Walker), and Christopher Michaud (Caroline); 11 great-grandchildren, Blake, Bode and Brooks Maynard; Juliet and Jenevieve Bouley; Wilder Schimmel; Coleman, Jack and Claire Peeke; Owen Michaud; and Lily Shahin; as well as several nieces and nephews and friends.
Reina’s family thanks the staff at Webster at Rye assisted living and the hospice care team from Cornerstone VNA for the wonderful care she received.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 12 Summer St., Hallowell, Maine with a committal service to follow at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mt.
