John Russell Owens

FARMINGTON – John Russell Owens, 92, passed away on November 24, 2025 at Woodlands Senior Living in Farmington.

He was born November 9, 1933 at home in Bingham, Maine, the son of Russell Ebbett Owens and Emma Belle (Boyington) Owens. He was a graduate of Bingham High School in the class of 1951 and served in the US Navy during the Korean War years.

On October 13, 1956 he married Annie Mary Baker at the Bingham Congregational Church. A resident of Madison for many years, he worked in the oil delivery business, having his own business for about 35 years.

He was a member of Bingham Grange #237 (over 60 years); Somerset Pomona Grange #6; the Maine State Grange; Keystone Lodge #80, AF & AM of Solon (70 years); and the American Legion of Madison. He took a keen interest in work horses over the years, having grown up on the Hollingsworth and Whitney Farm in Bingham, where his father cared for many horses used in the woods operations. John raised Belgian draft horses on the family woodlot in Embden for several years.

He is survived by his son James Owens (Lewis Bryson) of Madison, daughter Janet (Scott) Wilson of Rangeley, three grandchildren, Amy (Travis) Burleigh of Lewiston, Andrea (William) Miskimen of Dover, NH, and Micah (Amanda) Wilson of Lewison, along with six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail, & Zachary Burleigh, Gideon & Eliana Miskimen, and Mackenzie Wilson, and sister-in-law Pauline Baker of Bingham, and nephews Jordan Baker of Bingham and Milton Baker II of Sparks, NV.

He was predeceased by his wife and parents.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4pm at Giberson Funeral Home 40 Maple Street in Madison on Sunday, November 30, 2025. A celebration of John’s life will be held Monday, December 01, 2025 at the Madison Masonic Hall, 13 Maxim Street, at 1:00pm followed by the internment at Evergreen Cemetery in Solon and a luncheon at the Masonic Hall.
