AUGUSTA — City police spent much of Sunday seeking a suspect in the stabbing of a 42-year-old Sidney man late Saturday night.
Augusta Police Sgt. Vicente Morris said the investigation began when police received a report of a stabbing victim who had been taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center by a private vehicle just before midnight Saturday.
Morris said the stabbing itself occurred in the Hospital Street area of the city, but he did not want to give the precise location.
He said a bystander drove the victim to the hospital.
Morris declined to identify either the suspect or the victim. However, he said the stabbing was a targeted attack on a specific individual and that police have identified the suspect as a man from Augusta and are hoping to have him in custody soon.
The victim underwent surgery and was recovering from his wounds on Sunday. “He is doing better,” Morris said.
