Our Communities. Our Teams. Our Future.
We’re proud to make high school sports coverage free for everyone—because these moments matter. At Maine State Credit Union, we’re here for the people and places that make Maine strong. Let’s Go! Learn more at mainestatecu.org.
1. Cony: The Rams move from Class A North to B North, where they are an immediate threat. Freshman guard Carter Brathwaite is poised to be one of Maine’s best players from the jump, and he and senior forward Parker Morin provide Cony with a 1-2 punch that few teams will be able to match. Add in the knockdown shooting of junior Ian Lasselle, sophomore Jaidyn Nirza and senior transfer Jackson Kay (Oceanside), and this Cony team has a recipe to compete for a Gold Ball.
2. Gardiner: Another team moving from A North to B North, Gardiner could be the best it has been in a long time. The Tigers looked the part over the summer, finishing as runner-up to Camden Hills in summer league play at Cony. Gardiner is loaded at guard with junior Trace Moody, and seniors Brayden Elliott and Brady Peacock, and at forward with senior Brady Atwater and sophomore Colin McCormick. The Tigers have a great shot at their first postseason win in nine years.
3. Mt. Abram: The Roadrunners went 21-1 and won their first-ever state title last year. Although this year’s squad isn’t quite as deep, it should be in the mix to win another as it moves to Class D. Mt. Abram returns both starting guards in senior Killian Pillsbury, a premier shooter, and junior Chase Ross. Brennan Mitchell, a 6-foot-5 junior, returns to anchor the Roadrunners in the paint. Expect Mt. Abram to be at the top of D South, along with Monmouth Academy.

4. Maranacook: Although the Black Bears are young, they should be a contender in C South, with all but two players returning. Junior guard Jack Fontaine, who averaged 19 points last year, is among central Maine’s best players, and the return of senior forward Elijah Freeman, who missed 2024-25 because of an injury, is another boost. Maranacook will also have two of the best freshmen in Maine in Gage Mattson, a wing, and Connor Labrie, a strong shooter.
5. Valley: With four of the five starters returning from a team that went 20-1 last year, the Cavaliers are a no-brainer for this list. Seniors Harry Louis and Fisher Tewksbury have been stars for Valley since they were eighth-graders and are hungry for a Gold Ball after losing in the Class D state final two years ago and the regional final last year. Between that duo, freshman Brayden Lay and junior Levi Short, the Cavaliers are the favorites to win the Class S South championship and possibly a Gold Ball.
Also keep an eye on: Skowhegan, Nokomis, Mount View, Hall-Dale and Monmouth Academy.
