Early last year, Canadians and Americans were equally shocked by President Trump’s suggestion that Canada join our nation as its 51st state. In the months to follow, another possibility now appeals to many of my fellow citizens: Let us secede and join Canada as its 11th province, or fourth territory.
The advantages are clear: No more shame from being led by an out-of-control egomaniac, bent on destroying our constitutional safeguards; no more military assaults on our fellow Americans; no more fear of bankruptcies from uninsured health expenses; renewed pride in our efforts to control climate change; and so on.
The speech at Davos by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described a return to the values we once held immutable. I just hope Canada will have us.
