Billy Girard, a former goaltender for the University of New England, re-signed Wednesday with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners after playing 16 games in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Girard, 26, spent a weekend with the Mariners as a backup goalie in mid-December but didn’t appear in a game. In his time with the Huntsville Havoc and Pensacola Ice Flyers, he had a 6-6-3 record with a 2.99 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.

Girard was 50-16-7 at UNE before playing one game for Boston University in his final college season last year.
