The outcry against Donald Trump’s recent racist post of the Obamas was fitting, but what strikes me more is that the post is consistent with this administration’s policies and his history, and a deafening, similar outcry should greet his actions in this policy area — and many more policy areas.

A few examples in the area of race: The administration has fired wildly disproportionate numbers of high-ranking Black officials without explanation; it uses white nationalist symbols on government websites; it has dismantled the government’s system for investigating civil rights violations against people of color and more. President Trump famously stated there were “some very fine people on both sides” of the violent neo-Nazi attacks in Charlottesville in 2017 and blamed “DEI” for a tragic plane crash a year ago — without evidence.

Racism is wrong; it is a moral failure. It is against what Jesus taught. It is contrary to American ideals that many of us strive for, knowing the country can always do better. These include the idea that “all men are created equal” and that government is for “we the people.” The president cares about no one but himself, and he uses race and racism to distract and divide people. Let’s fight back by being united in trashing his latest racist outrage, protesting his many racist policies, and also in loudly opposing all his many policies and actions that hurt people throughout the land.
