I object, strongly, to the subject line of a Portland Press Herald news alert that I received by email at about 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. It read, “Protesters clash outside Pete Hegseth’s visit to Bath Iron Works,” and implies problems that I, as a Bath city councilor, thought I should attend to immediately.
Of course there were no problems. The facts are well summarized by the quote from Bath Police Chief Andrew Booth that concludes the article: “Everybody was well behaved and able to exercise their First Amendment rights.” I was able to resume my day after not too much interruption, but there need not have been any alert and certainly not one with such an inaccurate headline.
