The left lane in each direction of Interstate 95 in Fairfield was closed Thursday after the driver of a Toyota Highlander traveling south swerved to miss a merging pickup and rolled into the median.
Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release that shortly after 3 p.m., the driver of a 2025 GMC pickup was entering I-95 south at Exit 132 as the traffic in the right lane began to slow. The driver of the pickup pulled into the left lane, which caused the Highlander driver to swerve to the left.
The vehicles did not make contact.
Moss said the Highlander left the roadway and jumped the crossover for emergency vehicles. It landed and rolled several times, coming to a rest on its side in the median.
The occupants of the Highlander, a man, a woman and a child, were taken to Thayer Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The passing lanes in both directions were shut down while the accident area was cleared.
Drivers were advised to use caution driving through the area.
