Parts of southern and central Maine can expect some April snowfall on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service is projecting snow to fall on southern and central Maine on Tuesday morning and afternoon, ranging from a dusting to 1-2 inches in some areas.
Interior areas, such as Oxford County and northern Androscoggin, Cumberland, and York Counties, are expected to be hit the hardest, according to the weather service office in Gray.
Southern areas will likely see the snow first. As of Monday afternoon, the weather service’s Gray office projected Portland stands a 70% chance of seeing snow by early Tuesday morning, while communities further north, such as Augusta and Waterville, stand the highest chance of seeing snow between late morning and midafternoon.
While northern Maine is expected to be mostly spared from the snow, temperatures there are expected to plummet well below freezing.
While temperatures will dip into the 20s in Down East on Monday and Tuesday nights, some of the state’s northernmost communities could hover in the teens or even hit single digits, according to the weather service office in Caribou.
But it should feel more like spring by Wednesday and Thursday, with the weather service projecting temperatures reaching highs in the 40s and 50s across much of Maine.
