Sharon Bemis of the Election Integrity Network provided a public service, in a recent op-ed, by reminding Mainers that Sen. Susan Collins supports what I call Donald Trump’s Voter Elimination Act (“Susan Collins has taken a bold stand for secure elections,” April 8).
The Election Integrity Network is bankrolled by the usual gaggle of far-right billionaires, and carries on the work of Trump’s “Big Lie,” the theory that led to the Jan. 6 insurrection in 2021.
Just last year, Mainers rejected a ballot question to steal their right to vote. Bemis suggests we were fooled by the court-approved ballot language, or just too stupid to understand the campaign.
Trump’s current effort would take the right to vote away from seniors and disabled Mainers, and from many women too.
In America, the politicians don’t pick their voters. We choose our public servants. I’m with Bemis on one thing: Sen. Collins should be asked about her support for the Voter Elimination Bill at every appearance she makes.
