Alfie Cognata, Winthrop junior: The MVC 400-meter champ (54.35 seconds) last spring, Cognata had a strong indoor season with the Cony co-op team, winning KVAC Class A titles in the 800 (2:02.87) and mile (4:41.11) and placing second in the 800 (1:56.66) at the state meet.

Ethan Demmons, Cony senior: Demmons is Class B’s No. 2 returner in the 100 after placing third (11.64) last year. He’s also Class B’s No. 3 returner in the 200 after placing fourth (23.67), and the No. 2 returner in that event in KVAC Large (23.63).

Jacob Feith, Winthrop senior: Another top athlete for a strong team, Feith swept championship season for the Ramblers in the javelin last year, winning the MVC title with a throw of 162 feet, 3 inches and the Class C state crown with a heave of 151-5.

Charley Flees, Waterville senior: After cutting his teeth at Class B outdoor states as a junior last season, Flees made immense strides on the indoor circuit this winter as he claimed titles in both the mile (4:48.60) and 2-mile (10:30.06) at the KVAC championship.

Thomas Hebert, Skowhegan senior: Hebert’s third-place shot put throw of 49-8 1/2 at last year’s Class A outdoor meet broke his own program record. He broke the indoor record this winter with a toss of 50-6 3/4 that won the KVAC Class A title.

Hassan Hobbi, Winslow senior: A Varsity Maine All-State pick last outdoor and this indoor season, Hobbi is the two-time reigning Class C champ in the 110 hurdles (2024: 15.52; 2025: 15.15) and the defending champion in the 300 (40.68).

Elijah Manning, Gardiner senior: Manning is Class B’s top returning athlete in the 300 hurdles after placing third (43.30) at the state meet. He also took fourth in the KVAC Class A 400 (53.56) this indoor season.

Elijah Pelkey, Erskine Academy senior: Pelkey is a Class B indoor and outdoor champion in the triple jump, winning with a 40-10 last spring and a 42-10 1/4 this winter. He also won KVAC Class B indoor titles in the triple jump (41-10 1/2) and long jump (20-1 1/2).

Jacob Steiner, Nokomis senior: Steiner is the top KVAC Large School returner (139-8) and the No. 2 returner in Class B (143-0) in the discus. He’s also fresh off a KVAC Class B title (42-11 3/4) and No. 4 finish at states (47-8 1/2) in the indoor shot put.

Logan Wise, Lawrence sophomore: Wise was one of the fastest freshman sprinters in the state last year, and he built on that success this winter with a second-place finish in the KVAC Class B 200 (24.09). He’ll be a key piece of Lawrence’s relay teams.

Also keep an eye on: Evan Crockett, Messalonskee junior distance runner; Joseph Knapp, Cony junior sprinter; Ian Poulin, Gardiner junior race walker; Lucas Spencer, Winslow senior thrower.
