Belgrade’s Board of Selectpersons announced early Friday morning that Town Clerk Mary Vogel will serve as interim town manager effective May 1.

The announcement comes after residents campaigned for Vogel, expressing dissatisfaction with the town’s leadership and trust in Vogel, who has served the town for decades.

The board accepted Town Manager Lorna Dee Nichols’ resignation due to health concerns earlier this month. At least 10 residents attended an April 14 select board meeting in support of Vogel, some holding signs, and many more appeared over Zoom.

Vogel, who was unavailable for comment, previously held the interim position in 2022, before Nichols was appointed.

Belgrade is transitioning to a new fiscal year, and plans to hold its annual town meeting on June 9. Residents said they wanted consistent leadership during these events.

The town is currently accepting applications for the job of town manager.
