Zachary Matthew Allen

AUGUSTA – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Zachary Matthew Allen (affectionately known as “Zackster, Zackadoo, Zackaroni and Cheese and Zack-attack”), who tragically left us on April 23, 2026.

Zachary was born Aug. 31, 1994, in Augusta to Thomas and Barbara Allen, completing their family of four sons. Zachary was a brilliant and curious mind, known for both his intellect and his gentle spirit. He graduated in the top five of Monmouth Academy’s Class of 2013, where he was a proud member of the National Honor Society and the Monmouth Junior Fire Department.

He continued his education at Rochester Institute of Technology, pursuing a master’s degree in electrical engineering with a minor in mathematics. While at RIT, he worked as a teaching assistant and math tutor, sharing his knowledge and passion with others.

During his internship at Poseidon Systems, Zack became a patented inventor of a specialty sensor—an achievement that reflected both his creativity and dedication. It was also during this time that Zack began a difficult struggle with his mental health, ultimately stepping away from school just a few credits shy of completing his degree. Though this chapter was challenging, it does not define him. Zack was so much more—brilliant, kind, funny, and deeply caring. Zack had a quiet, gentle way about him, always putting others before himself. He had a passion for electronics and loved solving complex math problems that most wouldn’t dare attempt. He had a gift for fixing things, and he never hesitated to show up, tools in hand, ready to help someone else build, mend, or carry the weight of a project they couldn’t manage alone.

Outside of academics, he found joy in fishing, boating, spending time at the family camp in Litchfield, and immersing himself in music. He had a rare gift—he could pick up almost any instrument and teach himself to play.

More than anything, he cherished sharing his love of music with the light of his life, his son Julian, lovingly calling this special time together “baby music power hour.” He was a devoted caregiver, showing incredible compassion and patience, caring for Julian and other family members in times of need. Zack’s humor, quick wit, and endless supply of jokes brought laughter to those around him. He was an incredible human being, and we wish he could have seen himself through the eyes of those who loved him.

Zachary is survived by his parents, Tom and Barbara Allen of Augusta; his son, Julian Allen of Augusta; his brothers and their wives, Ryan and Ellen Allen of Augusta, Christopher and Courtney Allen of Augusta, and Michael and Kelly Allen of South Gardiner. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Elizabeth Bero of Gardiner and Caroline Allen of Monmouth; his aunts and uncles Stephen Bero of Gardiner, Linda and Mitch Thompson of South Carolina, Peggy Colaianni of North Carolina, Chris and Kelly Kusmit of Connecticut, Marty and Linda Allen of Winthrop, Bill Allen and Pam Carter of Bethel, and Jennifer Bero Mason of Fayette. He leaves behind Julian’s mother, Natalie Young, and her parents, Jeff and Michelle Young, who supported and loved him as their own; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him deeply.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Richard Allen and Walter Bero Sr.; and his uncle, Walter Bero Jr., all of whom he loved dearly and shared close bonds with.
