Given her support for the SAVE America Act, it is becoming increasingly clear that Sen. Susan Collins believes she cannot win reelection without disenfranchising thousands of Maine voters.
The good works she touts — like releasing $4.3 million for additional home heating aid and securing $65 million for rural infrastructure projects — are apparently not enough. Collins has failed to provide the leadership we expect from a U.S. senator from Maine. She has become little more than a vote bought and paid for by the Republican Party and the Trump administration.
If she was truly our senator, Collins would be leading efforts to protect our democracy by holding the unqualified, incompetent and corrupt members of the Trump administration to account. Instead, Collins is playing an instrumental role in the autocratic takeover of our country.
We Mainers we can do much better.
