Cheverus removed doubt among voters about who the state’s top team is with its 8-0 victory over Windham in a showdown of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in last week’s Varsity Maine softball poll. The Stags, who outscored last week’s opponents 29-0, still top the rankings, but this week they received all nine first-place votes.
Gorham moves up a spot to second, while Oxford Hills is a close third after being fifth last week.
Edward Little is this week’s big riser, going from unranked to No. 5 after victories over a pair of ranked teams, Lewiston and Skowhegan. Also, the poll has a fun three-way tie for seventh between York, Scarborough and Skowhegan.
The Varsity Maine softball poll is based on games played before May 5, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
