Laney Wentworth singled home Maesyn Atherton in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Skowhegan a 2-1 win over Bangor in a Class A North softball game Tuesday in Skowhegan.
Atherton also scored Skowhegan’s other run in the fourth inning.
Wentworth, Atherton and Addie Lynch all had two hits, and Abigale Carey pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts as the River Hawks improved to 6-1.
Abby Folsom hit two doubles for Bangor (3-5).
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 8, MADISON 1: Addison Libby pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Falcons (2-2) beat the Bulldogs (2-2) in Rumford.
A second-inning home run by Kenadi Berry was the only hit allowed by Libby.
Kyanah Wing tripled and drove in two runs for Mountain Valley. Mackenzie Gammon, Addison Tidswell and Madeleine Brown each chipped in with two hits.
BASEBALL
BANGOR 15, SKOWHEGAN 4: The Rams (7-1) broke a 4-4 tie with six runs in the fourth inning against the River Hawks (2-5) in Skowhegan.
Gavin Glanville-True, Owen Glanville-True, Lucas Rutherford and Jonas Gilley all drove in two runs for Bangor.
Jack Fitzpatrick hit a two-run homer and Trent Austin doubled home two runs for Skowhegan.
