Kathleen Ann True

WEST GARDINER – Kathleen Ann True, 77, of West Gardiner, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, after bravely facing a terminal illness.

She was born on March 11, 1949, in Augusta, to Edgar Baston and Barbara (Hassen) Nelson, and was the beloved granddaughter of Thelma “Nana” Hassen.

Kathy devoted many years to her family as a homemaker, raising her children on the family farms in Windsor, while her husband, Paul, worked long days. She had a servant’s heart and, once her children were grown, found fulfillment working in dental and medical offices. Her favorite role, however, was as a Personal Support Specialist (PSS), where she took great joy in helping her clients with their daily lives – especially Dick, Jack, and Joyce.

Kathy enjoyed embroidery, “glamping,” and was a past member of Aglow, where she also served on the local board.

She was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Lawrence Nelson; her brother, Ronnie Baston; and her grandparents, Ernest and Thelma Hassen.

Kathleen is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Paul, who was a source of comfort to her in her final months. She is also survived by her children, son Paul and his children, Riley, Mason, and Emma; son Dean and his daughters, Katelyn and Kurstyn; daughter Dawn and Randy and their children, Lake and Brooke; and daughter Deborah and Bear and her children, Melody, Maree, and Slade. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Jace, Thomas, Jack, and Evie Grace.

Kathy will be lovingly remembered for her strong will, her servant’s heart in caring for others, and the life she built for her family.

A memorial service will be held at Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, 44 Hallowell Rd., Chelsea, on Tuesday, May 12 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the church hall.
