One of the joys of a summer stroll in Maine is being able soak up the scenic beauty.

But that beauty is not just natural, considering Maine’s high concentration of talented artists and crafters. The beauty also comes in the form of paintings, drawings, pottery, baskets and all manner of Maine-made art.

So a really easy way to see a wide variety of this kind of beauty is by going to several regular art walks held all over Maine in the summer. Some are in cities like Portland and feature galleries, museums and artists setting up their wares on the sidewalk. Some are in small historic villages, like the one held during summer months in Wiscassett.

Here are some suggestions for art walks to check out this summer.

BIDDEFORD

The downtown of this Saco River mill town is filled with art and music every third Friday from May to October, and all events are free. People can stroll into galleries, studios, shops and various public spaces from 5-8 p.m. Some of the stops on the art walk this year have included: Mill Pond Ceramics Studio; Little Plover Studio; Patrick Walsh Art; Cheryl Lichwell Sculpture; Kids Corner; and Biddeford Public Market Pop-Up. The next one is scheduled for June 19. artofbiddeford.org
