Joseph Lloyd Pilsbury
AUGUSTA – Joseph Lloyd Pilsbury, 80, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 20, 2026, at Maine General Medical Center.
“Jumpin” Joe was born in Augusta, Maine, on Nov. 13, 1945, to parents Ralph and Frances (Farrell) Pilsbury. Joe was one of six siblings and was raised mostly in Palermo. Joe was a 1963 graduate of Erskine Academy, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. After a notorious false start at St. Francis Xavier University to become a priest, Joe graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with an associates degree in agriculture. Joe was a member of Phi Mu Delta Fraternity, and amassed what seemed like six to seven years worth of stories from only two years time in Orono.
Most of Joe’s working career was spent in the poultry business, managing farms scattered around Maine. As the poultry industry in Maine faded away, Joe started a wood harvesting business. Ultimately Joe transitioned to car sales until his retirement.
Joe had a passion for the outdoors – hunting, fishing, and picking fiddleheads. He made sure to introduce these pastimes to all of his children and grandchildren as well as anyone else that showed interest. He had a deep appreciation for the unique beauty of the wilderness, famously enjoying the simple, seasonal pleasures like finding lady slippers, may flowers, and holly berries. In the fall, he was also known to redistribute acorns to open areas of the woods to make sure the deer had plenty to eat.
Joe is survived by his loving partner of the last five years, Sharon Cormier of Windsor. They quickly became best friends unless the cribbage board was out.
He leaves behind his daughter, Angela Plummer and her husband Jeffrey of Palermo, his son, Joseph Pilsbury and his wife Natalie of Halfmoon, N.Y., stepdaughters Betsy Glidden of Westbrook and Buffy Whitaker of Scarborough.
Joe was preceded in death by his partner of 32 years, Patsy Glidden of South China (2019); brother, Mark Pilsbury (2017); son, Scott Joseph Pilsbury (2022), and his stepson, Bruce Glidden (2021).
He is also survived by his brother, Ralph Pilsbury and his wife Susan of Bangor, brother, Peter Pilsbury and his wife Natalie of Turner, sister, Jane Hussey and her husband Carr of Brooksville, Fla., and finally, his brother, Thomas Pilsbury and his husband Stan York, also of Brooksville, Fla.
Joe’s memory lives on through his many beloved grandchildren. He was the proud grandfather of Zachary Plummer, Diedra Wilson and Paige Palleschi; Mia and Owen Pilsbury; Jake Pilsbury; Frank, Donald, Scott, and Michaela Pilsbury; Mark, Joe, Reid, and Annebell Pilsbury; Mahlon and Sophie Glidden, and Colby and Sam Whitaker. He was also blessed to have been able to spend memorable years with great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jameson Plummer, Mayla and Matthew Wilson, Byron Palleschi and Bo Leeman. Henry Whitaker and Lucile Glidden are the newest two and will get to know him through pictures and stories.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Alfond Center for Health in Augusta for their care and empathy during his final days.
There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, Windsor Chapel, 983 Ridge Rd., Route 32, Windsor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
