MOSCOW – Mabel Cates, 96, went to her heavenly home on May 4, 2026. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. A faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, friends and community.
Mabel was born on Nov. 8, 1929, in Cranbourne, Canada, to the late Benedict and Cathrine Cassidy. She emigrated with her parents to Moscow where she met and married Maynard Cates. They raised their family here until Maynard’s passing in 1989.
Mabel continued to be a devoted and loving mother. Mabel is survived by her children, Benjamin and wife Gail, Mary and husband Paul, Mark and wife Linda, Kathleen and husband Brad. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who live in North Dakota, Massachusetts and Maine. Mabel kept track of them through e-mail and facebook.
Mabel was active in her community until her later years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church and a member of the alter guild. she was a longtime member on the Bingham Grange.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Donald Cassidy, Mabel’s brother for driving her to many appointments and keeping an eye on her for the last couple of years. In the last few days of her life the compassion and professionalism of the staff at Redington-Fairview Hospital was appreciated.
A funeral Mass will be said for Mabel at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Bingham on May 28, at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Robinson cemetery in Moscow.
A light lunch will be served at the church after the interment.
