Wherever you are in Maine this month, there’s a party, parade or dance happening nearby.

June is Pride month, and the number of annual celebrations around the state continues to grow. This year, there are events in more than 30 communities, including small towns in the Midcoast, Down East, the mountains and Aroostook County.

The state’s population centers continue to host lots of Pride events, as they have for years, including the Pride Portland parade and festival in Maine’s biggest city on June 20.

Here are some suggestions for fun ways to celebrate Pride in a town or city near you. Some communities planning events didn’t have schedules or details finalized as this story was being written. Bangor

Billed as Central Maine’s largest annual Pride celebration, this day-long event features a parade and lots of activities and entertainment along the Penobscot River. Vendor and resource tables will be set up by 10 a.m., the parade kicks off at 11 a.m., and there’s entertainment on the main stage beginning at noon. The event has been held for more than 30 years, and the theme this year is “Color Our World With Pride.”

Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor Pride has events planned on several days in the first half of June, but Saturday has the most going on. There’s a Pride run at 8 a.m. from the Village Green, followed by a queer family meetup at the Park Street playground at 10 a.m. There’s a Pride rally at noon at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church followed by the Pride Festival and Craft Fair from 1-5 p.m. at locations around downtown. The Curbside Queens Drag Show caps the day at 7 p.m. at the Criterion Theatre.

Belfast

The Belfast Pride celebration begins with a parade at 1 p.m., down Waldo Avenue to Main Street and Heritage Park. At the park, there will be music, dancing and many community organizations to talk about what they offer. Parade marchers will begin lining up at 12:30 p.m. at Belfast Area High School.

Bethel

Bethel Pride starts with a gathering of local artists and community groups in the lobby of The Gem, from 4-6 p.m., followed by a family-friendly drag performance featuring Chartreuse Money and other Maine drag queens. After the live show, there’s a 7:30 p.m. screening of the film “Stop! That! Train!,” starring performers from the TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Brunswick

Brunswick’s Pride festival will be from noon to 5 p.m. on the Town Mall. There’ll be performances by drag queens, a choral group and dance troupes, with ASL interpreters. There also will be food trucks (with vegan options), nonprofit groups and LGBTQ+ artists selling their creations. Check the website closer to the date for a festival schedule and list of vendors.

Denmark

Denmark Pride will be held in the park near the Denmark Arts Center, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be more than 20 vendors, community groups, food, mocktails, music by DJ XO and performances by several drag queens, including Tasha Tectite, Chartreause Money and Miss Information.

Eastport

Downeast Pride will be celebrated in this seaport at the far eastern edge of the country from noon to 6 p.m. at various locations. There will be vendors and crafters selling their goods around downtown from noon to 3 p.m. and a performance by Curbside Queens at 2:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., there’s a Pride march that starts at the amphitheater. A tea dance at Eastport Arts Center is from 4-6 p.m.

Gouldsboro

The Gouldsboro Pride celebration includes a Cookie Share for Father’s Day, celebrating LGBTQ+ families and fathers. The event starts at 1 p.m., and people are encouraged to bring cookies, brownies or candy to share. Canned goods and dry goods will be collected and donated to the Schoodic Food Pantry. Speakers include Shenna Bellows, the secretary of state and a candidate for governor, and Jordan Wood, a candidate for Congress in the 2nd District.

Hallowell

Hallowell Pride includes a parade starting on Water Street at 1:30 p.m. The parade’s theme is freedom, inspired by George Michael’s song “Freedom! ’90” and the lyrics: “I won’t give you up, I won’t let you down.” The event will include live music, vendors, food trucks and community groups.

Kennebunkport

Pride in the ‘Bunks will be held from noon to 3 p.m., with free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, lunch food for sale, face painting and crafts.

Lewiston/Auburn

Sunday, downtown Lewiston and Auburn. greatfallspride.org

Great Falls Pride starts at 10 a.m. with a gathering at the Mechanics Row lot in Auburn, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a march across the Longley Bridge to Simard Payne Park in Lewiston. A festival in the park, held until 2 p.m., will include the Lewiston Farmers’ Market.

Ogunquit

Saturday, Veterans Park, 95 Main St. ogunquit.org

Saturday’s festivities start with the raising of the Pride flag at 10:30 a.m. in the park. Blake Hayes, a morning host on radio station Coast 93.1, will emcee the ceremony. There will be a parade to Dorothea Jacobs Grant Common featuring vintage cars, music by the Ideal Maine Band and community members carrying the River of Pride flag. After the parade, which begins at 11:30 a.m., there will be live music and entertainment at Grant Common, with vendors promoting LGBTQ+ programs, products and services, plus food trucks.

Portland

Pride Portland’s annual parade, which draws thousands of people, kicks off a little earlier this year, at 11:30 a.m. in Monument Square. The parade heads west on Congress Street, then goes down High Street and ends at the Pride Portland Festival at Deering Oaks park. The parade is led by the Dykes on Bikes group and will feature the River of Pride flag, more than 900 feet long, carried by marchers overhead. The festival, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include more than 100 vendors, more than 20 Maine food trucks and three entertainment areas. The main stage will include local music, drag and dancing while the family area will include crafts and entertainment geared for kids.

Rockport

The Youth Pride Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Rockport Public Library on Limerick Street, marches through the village and ends at the harbor. That night in neighboring Camden, there’s a Queer Film Fest at Camden Opera House. There’s a pre-event reception at the opera house from 5-7 p.m., with the festival starting right after. Tickets to the festival are $20, but no one will be turned away for a lack of funds.

Sanford

The Sanford Pride Picnic in Gowen Park is from noon to 3 p.m. There will be LGBTQ+ groups and allied services, free lunch, music and drag performers.

Waterville

The Central Maine Pride Festival is 1-5 p.m. There’ll be food, artists, crafts, community nonprofits and live entertainment. Last year’s event drew more than 400 people.

Yarmouth

The Yarmouth Pride Picnic is a BYO picnic on the Memorial Green, from noon to 2 p.m. Check the Yarmouth Pride Picnic Facebook page for updated details closer to the date.
