Leona “Lea” (Peirce) Grant

VASSALBORO – Leona “Lea” (Peirce) Grant peacefully and quietly left this world on May 19, 2026, surrounded by those she loved and those who loved her, entering into eternity with Jesus.

Lea was born on July 3, 1929, in Hudson, Maine, to Vane and Gracie (Alexander) Peirce. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1949.

On August 13, 1949, Lea married her love, Norman “Norm” E. Grant. In the years that followed, they welcomed theirdaughter, Nona, and their son, Norman “Buzz,” completing their family. Together, they built a life rooted in love andmutual respect, cherishing time spent with family and friends and a shared enjoyment of activities like camping, fishing, and hunting. Norm passed away on Dec. 1, 1978, and Lea never remarried.

Lea had a strong work ethic and over the years worked in both office and retail settings including Dexter’s Drug Store, Cascade Woolen Mill, Maine Merchants Association, and Maine Merchants Workers’ Compensation Trust. She continued working well into her 80s, forming lasting friendships along the way.

Lea was a much-loved mom, Gram, and Gigi to her family and extended family. She cherished time spent camping, fishing, and exploring back roads with Nonie and Charlie. She also found great joy in vegetable and flower gardening, especially in planting “surprise” flowers throughout the yard for Nona to discover when she least expected them.

Lea was predeceased by her husband, Norman E. Grant; her parents, Vane and Gracie Peirce; her sister, Elsie McNally; her sister and brother-in-law, Nonie and Charles Berry; and her son, Norman “Buzz” Grant.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-love, Nona and Kenneth Quirion; her daughter-in-love, Patti Grant; her grandchildren, Devon and Ryan Redman and Justin Grant; and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Isaac Gammon, Victoria Redman, and Kylie Grant.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to caregivers who became like family—Hannah, Finn, and Claudette. They alsowish to express their deep gratitude to Michelle Breen, FNP, who was always available to advise, and toBeacon/Amedisys Hospice (Kathy, Heather, and Rachel) for their compassionate care and guidance. A special thank you to Rachel and Kaitlyn for their gentle, loving kindness to Lea and the family on her last day.

A private graveside memorial will be held at a later date.
