Residents on Tuesday returned incumbent Gary Hickey II to the West Gardiner Board of Selectmen, and elected Brandon Martin to the school board.
Hickey, with 788 votes, topped two other candidates vying for a lone selectman spot up for election. Rod Moody and Corey Gero had 233 and 230 votes, respectively.
Hickey, 43, a full-time firefighter serving his first term on the board, said things are going pretty well in town but as its population increases, it will need to be careful to ensure its infrastructure can keep up.
In a two-way race to represent West Gardiner on the School Administrative District 11 board of directors, Martin, with 672 votes, topped Fred Merrill, who received 395 votes.
Martin, 33, is a parent of three, with two children attending district schools. He works as a public procurement professional and has not previously served or sought elected office.
