Fisher Tewksbury struck out 12 and pitched a one-hit shutout as fourth-seeded Valley blanked fifth-seeded Forest Hills 3-0 in a Class D South baseball quarterfinal Wednesday in Bingham.

Tewksbury outdueled Tigers pitcher Maddox Cuddy, who fanned 10, walked two and gave up only two hits.

The Cavaliers (7-6) broke up the scoreless stalemate when Collin Nichols scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Both of Valley’s hits came in the sixth. Caleb Miller led off with a double, then scored on Levi Short’s single. Short later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Cameron Lay.

The only hit for Forest Hills (6-10) was a fourth-inning single from Liam Achey.

In the semifinals, Valley will face the winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal between No. 1 Richmond (11-1) and No. 8 Temple Academy (2-10).

SOFTBALL

BUCKFIELD 15, TEMPLE ACADEMY 0: Daisy Vining pitched a one-hitter while striking out eight, and the Bucks (15-2) advanced in the Class D South playoffs with a four-inning quarterfinal win over the Bereans (6-11) in Buckfield.

Top-seeded Buckfield advances to face No. 4 Vinalhaven (13-3) in the semifinals.

The Bucks rapped 13 hits. Brooklyn Richardson doubled and drove in four runs, while Chloee Bennett went 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs, and Addie Morris was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and three runs. Sophie St. Pierre and Avery Zielinski also had two hits.

Elise Pierson got eighth-seeded Temple’s lone hit.

FOREST HILLS 8, VALLEY 3: Janessa Moffitt pitched a four-hitter with 15 strikeouts and belted a home run, leading the third-seeded Tigers (14-2) to a Class D South quarterfinal win over the No. 6 Cavaliers (5-12) in Jackman.

Moffitt took a shutout into the seventh inning, when she gave up three unearned runs. She issued only one walk.

At the plate, Moffitt was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs. All 11 players who batted for Forest Hills got at least one hit, including two each by Shelby Veilleux, Addison Chiasson and Emma Vining.

Ayvah Clark hit a double for Valley.

OLD TOWN 10, LAWRENCE 3: Molly Albert smacked four hits and drove in three runs to lead the fourth-seeded Coyotes (13-4) to a Class B North quarterfinal win over the No. 5 Bulldogs (11-6) in Old Town.

Old Town will face either No. 1 Hermon (14-2) or No. 9 Cony (9-8) in the semifinals.

Albert went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. Her two-run double gave the Coyotes the lead for good and was one of the highlights of a six-run third inning. Natalie Fournier (triple) and Taylor Madden (double) each contributed two hits, two RBI and scored two runs.

Old Town pitcher Haley Sirois struck out eight batters and allowed two hits in six innings of relief.

Leah Tibbetts doubled and Alea Williams and Natalie Grard drove in runs for Lawrence.

GIRLS LACROSSE

YARMOUTH 16, LEWISTON/OAK HILL 0: Vivienne Corriveau led the seventh-seeded Clippers (9-6) with four goals as they advanced to the Class A quarterfinals by defeating the 10th-seeded Blue Devils (8-7) in Yarmouth.

Maya Nasveschuk added three goals, and Kiki Tompkins and Emery Sharp both scored twice as Yarmouth advanced to play No. 2 Thornton Academy on Friday. Tompkins also had two assists.
