During the past week Donald Trump continued his unauthorized war on Iran, proposed a nearly $2 billion slush fund for his cronies and urged the Senate to give him $70 billion so ICE can evict a million more immigrants, the great majority of whom have committed no crime. Mainers should be outraged.
Meanwhile, he and his minions have continued their assault on our environmental protections. He has invoked the 1950 Defense Production Act to fund two new coal power plants and allow 13 others to continue production past their retirement dates. The day before, he proposed giving political appointees the final say in grants for science funding.
One month ago, he paid $1 billion of our money to a French company to buy out its two offshore wind farm leases. This was after he had already blocked dozens of other wind projects by refusing them federal permits. He even halted five East Coast wind farms that were already under construction.
Trump has gutted staffing at the Environmental Protection Agency, rescinded the finding that greenhouse gases are a public health threat, cut funding for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and opened up millions of acres of public lands for fracking. He continues to reiterate that climate change is a hoax and a con job.
If we want a habitable planet for our children and grandchildren, we must vote out this ignorant and self-serving president as well as his Republican enablers in Congress.
