On June 9, the day of primary elections, I was an election worker at the polls in Windham, Maine, for the first time.
To anyone who continues to believe the oft-touted lie that elections in America are not safe and they are riddled with fraud and corruption, I encourage them to consider getting involved as an election day worker.
Joining the team of dedicated, serious and super conscientious workers overseeing all aspects of the voting process at the Windham High School was a total eye-opener for me. This team was a well-oiled machine that demonstrated integrity at the highest level.
There was an unparalleled level of security integral to the entire process. I witnessed contingencies in place for checking and double checking who has voted — obviously in the effort to eliminate the possibility that anyone might be able to vote twice. I observed the regulated process for registering new voters. I interacted with numerous other poll workers in the sorting and stacking of ballots at the end of the night.
It was a total immersion in a level of government that I had never before experienced.
I encourage anyone who has questioned the integrity of the voting process get in touch with their local town hall and ask to become an Election Day worker. Like me, you will be in for an experience that will convince you that there is no such thing as a stolen election.
